Jack Wilshere has said that Arsenal needs to make more signings like Gonzalo Higuain this summer if they have to become the strong contenders for the Premier League title next season.
Arsenal is very close to signing the Real Madrid striker Higuain. The player has agreed personal terms with the Gunners and now, it’s up to the two clubs to reach a transfer fee agreement.
When asked about Higuain’s signing, Wilshere said, “I am glad to hear that we are set to sign him. He is a class act and his arrival will bring spark in the camp.”
“I want Arsenal to sign a few more players like Gonzalo. You need to have depth in your squad if you want to win the league. Look at Manchester United, even if their regular players suffer injury, it doesn’t bother them as they have quality players in the reserves.”
When asked about Arsenal not winning a trophy since the last 9 years, Wilshere said, “Yes, it’s been too long now. We need to win silverware as soon as possible. We can’t keep letting fans down every season.”
“There is pressure on the management as well as on the players. We have been trying hard and have also gone close at times, but, we haven’t been able to get over the line.”
“It’s just the matter of winning one title. After that, we will be back on track.”
When asked about Arsenal being in the race for signing the Manchester United superstar Wayne Rooney, Wilshere said, “It would be great if the club manages to sign Wayne. He is a sort of guy who can help you win titles. His mere presence makes a lot of difference.”
Apart from Rooney, Arsenal is also reported to be interested in the Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini who is a part of Everton at the moment.
