Petr Cech believes that young players such as Rob Holding and Calum Chambers can successfully replace the injured Per Mertesacker at the heart of the defence.
The German international is set to miss at least five months of football and Petr Cech believes that Arsenal has enough players that can step up during his absence. Arsene Wenger has stated that he is still in the market for a new defender, but Petr Cech believes that there is enough talent at the club at the moment.
Arsenal has already signed a new defender in Rob Holding from Bolton in the summer. The player was named as Bolton’s player of the season, and Petr Cech believes that this is a great opportunity for him to make a name for himself at Arsenal. The former Chelsea goalkeeper believes that his is also a great occasion for Calum Chambers to prove his quality at the back. The player who joined from Southampton two seasons ago has yet to establish himself in the first team and with the absence of the German international can have some game time in the side.
Petr Cech said that Per Mertesacker is an important player for the team not only regarding skills but also in terms of experience. He said that the defender has tremendous experience by playing at the top clubs and also winning the World Cup. He stated that it is not easy to replace a player of this quality and that there are not enough quality replacements in the market. He believes that it is a massive opportunity for the younger defenders to prove to the manager that they can do a job at the back and help the team overcome the absence of Pet Mertesacker.
Petr Cech believes that Arsenal can have a good season, but they will need to make a good start to the season if they want to have a chance to win the title.
