DIABY SAYS HE COULD HAVE WON BALLON D’OR

Ex-Gunner player Abou Diaby has said that injuries stopped him from reaching his potential as a football player.

The midfielder said he could have won the Ballon d’Or if there were no or less injuries in the picture in his career.

The player, who is currently with French side Marseille, has made less than 200 club performances despite playing for almost a decade and half as a professional footballer. The player moved to Arsenal in 2005 for £2 million but barely registered a few performances every season. In his last four, he played only 16 times despite spaying up to ten years in London.

The player, whilst speaking with France Football, said he could have been competing with the best players in the world for football awards if not for the numerous injuries that bedevilled his career.

“I have no limits. Once upon a time, people would ask me about the Ballon d’Or. I told them I dreamt about it. I have always had big ambitions, like to become one of the best in my position. I think that I had the potential to achieve that.

“I am not saying it pretentiously, but some people in life are ambitions, others aren’t” the player currently sidelined with an ankle injury said to the French magazine.

The player returned home to play in the French League as fitness problems hampered his career. However, this is yet to change as the player has only played two games in the Ligue 1 this term. The 30-year old player is expected to hang his boots finally anytime soon.
