The French midfielder of Arsenal,AbouDiaby is not going through a very prolific season with his club as the last appearance that he made for the English club was back in September when Arsenal lost against Southampton in a Capital One Cup match.
According to medical scans and results, Diaby has picked up a hamstring injury that will keep him out of the playing grounds for the next 3 months.
With the January transfer window approaching, the future of certain players are being put into question as managers are entering a period when they have to decide which players are in their plans and which ones will be sold.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that AbouDiaby will be offered a new deal that will keep him tied up with Arsenal for the next few years but only after he is fully recovered.
“Diaby hasn’t a mental problem, but a problem of injury. He is a player for whom I have great respect. The football player needs mobility of his ankle. When your ankle mobility is restricted, you compensate with something else. He suffered from a very bad tackle in Sunderland six or seven years ago. He was the victim of an assassin’s tackle that was never punished. It has restricted the mobility of his ankle.
“If he comes back, I will keep him. I always believed in him. In football, the most important thing is health.”
Even though the injuries of AbouDiaby seem to be repetitive and ongoing, Wenger believes that the French midfielder is capable of coming back from his string of injuries and get back into the pitch in full force.
AbouDiaby broke his right ankle after receiving a tackle from Sunderland’s Dan Smith in 2006 and ever since then, it has taken the midfielder some time to recover from that challenge and even after having been fully recovered from that tackle, Diaby had to stay out of action for more than 8 months as the French midfielder tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee which required surgery.
Nonetheless, even with the long history of injuries that Diaby has gone through, Wenger is confident that the player will recover and get back into the game.
