The Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, has said that Abou Diaby’s chances of returning to action before the end of the ongoing season aren’t that good.
Diaby who has seen a lot of injury setbacks during his time at the Emirates stadium was supposed to get fit towards the end of February, but, Wenger doubts if that will happen.
Diaby has been out of action since the last 10 months or so and if he fails to come back in the next couple of months, it would become very hard for him to find a place in the France national squad which will be named for the World Cup finals.
In one of his interviews a few weeks ago, Diaby had said that he was hoping to be fit soon and get himself into contention for national selection.
When Wenger was asked if he thinks Diaby would be able to start playing before the ongoing season finishes, he said, “Well, it’s hard to answer this question at the moment as we have no idea how much more time he would take, but, one thing is for sure that he has not been recovering as fast as he should. I don’t see him playing very soon.”
Diaby used to be in the starting XI of Arsenal on a regular basis at one point of time, but, from the 2010-11 Season onwards, he has spent most of his time out of the Gunners squad. He has just played 30 odd league matches for his current club in the last 3 years or so.
In July last year, Arsenal had made an announcement that Diaby would be using a different jersey number i.e. 24 in future, but, his fans are yet to see him with that 24 no. jersey on because he hasn’t featured even once in the ongoing season.
