Premier League new boys Newcastle United have hit a snag in offloading a defender MassadioHaidara.
The player was set to move to Ligue 1 to feature for St Etienne but the deal broke down due to last minute disagreements, according to L’Equipe.
The English Championship winners are hoping to cut the size of the squad to the league standard. They thought the deal would clear but now the player might run down his contract at St James Park. Haidara is in the final year of his contract with the Magpies but he was set to return to his homeland after Rafa Benitez named him excess to requirement.
He was supposed to revive his career in the Ligue 1 but Les Verts could not come close in offering him similar wages he receives in England. Haidara joined from Nancy in 2013 after growing through the age ranks in France. Since moving to Newcastle, he has featured just 48 times in all competition after four years.
The 24-year old left back has been told to go elsewhere but he might now see off his contract at Tyneside. The player might remain at the club without any action or go elsewhere before the deadline lapses as he has not ready for such paycut.
On Nancy, they have succeeded in luring Monpelier goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren. The club signed the 31-year old on a two-year deal. Jourdren came through the same youth ranks at the fame Clariefontaine as AbouDiaby, Hatem Ben Arfa. He spent 11 years at Montpellier before deciding to offer his services to Nancy that is seeking to remain afloat in the French top flight.
